August 11, 2000 Paul Taylor No, not the bubbling-under Wigan band Witness but post-punk nearly-made-it local heroes A Witness, whose career was cut short by the death of guitarist Rick Aitken in 1989 in a climbing accident. This complication recalls their Stranglers-ish basslines, tight, edgy tunes and a kind of experimental rawness which recommended them as darlings of the John Peel session. A very worthy revival. |
